Weekly photo challenge: Endurance

250 year old Oak at Moffat, Scotland

260 year old Oak at Moffat, Scotland

This oak tree is two hundred and sixty years old and has certainly showed endurance! It is in the grounds of the Moffat House Hotel in Scotland. You can only imagine all the comings and goings that tree has seen at the house, which was built in the 1750s.

These photos were taken in February 2014 when you can clearly see the ancient limbs clothed in soft moss and lichen.

    • Really. I know yew trees lived a long time, but I had forgotten that oaks did too. I should have known, though, having lived in Nottingham for a while – the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest is thought to be about 800 years old.

    • Thanks – it was actually quite difficult to photograph the tree as the light was low and you couldn’t get a good angle as there wasn’t much room. However I was pleased with how that one turned out.
