I have waited a couple of years for these, and others, to flower, but they do like sandy soil so should do well here if we get enough sun.
Mine are planted in a patch of sand and gravel from the old path/paving slabs, which I was too lazy to dig out, and I’m glad I didn’t as they seem to like it, and I already have one flower coming despite what I suspected was slightly too much shade for parts of the day. Glad yours are doing well too. Bearded irises always look rather impressive to my naive eyes, like special plants for advanced-level gardeners!
Yes, they do look special don’t they. Have you ever tried the Dutch iris( bulb) types. I have Black Beauty and that is pretty special too and more reliable.
Yes – I have some about to come out now in tubs outside my front door! Blue and white ones… they look rather patriotic!
Lovely, they are such beauties I just wish they would bloom for longer.
I guess that is why we have to photograph or paint them. I think I once tried to draw one at school, but haven’t tried since. Do you draw or paint?
I do, but not very well I’ m afraid. I love sketching or painting because it makes you slow down and really, really look at things.
Good for you. I was always hopeless at art, but maybe macro photography is similar in that you notice things you wouldn’t usually see. My photography certainly complements my gardening as I am now thinking about putting plants together more in order to get a good photo.
A lovely iris Annette. They’re all gone here for a while but I can never get enough.
I agree. I have another bearded iris coming out and then I have some bulbs coming out, but I don’t have many at the moment. I hope they spread.
Iris do have a fleeting beauty, but worth waiting for.
They are gorgeous, aren’t they. I am not sure I have quite enough sun for them here but I do have a nice sandy soil.
Did yodu know they have reblogging uiris. I like many of the other iris as you don’t need to replant as often.
I don’t know what a reblogging iris is? I’m all for plants that don’t need replanting too often.
It should have reblooming. They bloom in the spring and have second bloon in the fall. They were just coming on the market when I stopped gardening.
Ah that makes more sense! I must look out for some of those.
Ah, when I see your Iris I ask myself, why dont I grow them. Well its always been a question over the short flowering period, however with careful planting the foliage could be a good backdrop for other perennials.
