This is a first for me Christina. They are pretty aren’t they? Difficult to photograph with a macro lens as they are so three dimensional and one bit is always blurred! Hope to get more shots today.
Lovely iris. The lighting is lovely and I like the soft focus.
It really depends on what you want to achieve. The problem with macro photography is getting the depth of field right and therefore irises can be tricky. Practice helps and so does a little technology (stacking).
I would love to say the soft focus was intentional!! I have played around with macro quite a bit now and am just at the stage when I realise how difficult it is. I understand the theory, but don’t do too well in practice. I think it is sometimes safer to take a photo from further away and then crop it. I had to look up stacking as I wasn’t familiar with that term, but I think I had heard of it before. It also sounds a bit tricky as any movement of the camera while refocussing will mess everything up. Not sure my equipment, or skill is up to it yet, but good to know about. Thanks.
Stacking needs a tripod and patience. It is possible to get good results without it, but it takes time to learn about choosing the right depth of field. I’m still at the trial and error stage and hit the delete button more often than the save. Fortunately the digital age makes practice easy.
Great macro photography Annette. I find it difficult to find the time to study and apply the theories, I have been experimenting with the depth of field and the close up selector on the camera, much simpler and quicker!

It is a pretty one, isn’t it. It was ages before I realised there were different varieties of iris reticulata. I had always had Harmony and thought that was it! What a nice surprise when I saw others on people’s blogs.
I’m an iris fan .. So pretty
They are one of my favourite flowers too, big or small!
They are so delicate …
